Nike t40 tour wood

Nike T-40 Tour 3 wood
Club:Nike T-40 Tour 3 wood
Shaft:Nike Speed Step steel regular flex
Grip:Nike
Looks: This club is a refined, more compact version of the T-40 oversize. The difference in cosmetics is apparent when they are placed side by side. The T-40 tour has a grey head as opposed to the oversize blue and the head size is smaller both in heel to toe length and face height. All these help to create the appearance of a more compact head which increases appeal to low handicappers (also stamping "Tour" on any club usually denotes a "badge" that says "good golfer on the tee"!)
The same concept has been used by Titleist in the 980F and 980F strong to create a differential in golfers minds. The clubhead sits really well behind the ball, compact and square and with plenty of ball visible above the crown.
The grey head provides a nice contrast with the face. The clubhead is finished superbly and the 40gram tungsten weight in the sole is present as in the T-40 Oversize model. The speed step steel shaft is a lightweight shaft and this aids in giving the clubhead the appearance of having plenty of weight. The Nike grip is very acceptable and the overall club looks great.

Performance:
The combination of compact head and steel shaft make this particular club play completely differently from the T-40 Oversize.Ball flight is much lower and hotter (much more run on end of flight) and the club hits for really fine distance.
Draws and fades are not easy to conjure up,but can be produced with a little manipulation.Low punches are not a problem by gripping down the shaft 1 or 2".
The downside is that the low flight hinders the club's effectiveness from rough, despite the nice compact head and the hot ball flight will reduce versatility on long par 3's also.Low handicappers can live with this though and will gladly trade these in for looks and workability.

Value:
These represent good value viz a vi competion.Trade-in and resale value may be hit by limited appeal so this is one to perhaps keep if you settle on a purchase.

Verdict:
This is a very nice fairway wood for the low handicapper. It has looks, workability and a strong ball flight. The higher handicapper would be better served by the excellent T-40 Oversize or a Callaway model, but if you are a low shooter who can resist the temptation to stick with Titleist or TaylorMade then this club will not disappoint.
