Looks:Nike has a short history in the clubmaking business but it has already built a reputation for making cosmetically pleasing clubs.While these Slingshot irons will never be considered works of art there is no doubting that these are well made weapons.
They feature a thickish topline and wide sole,typical of most game improvement irons and it is clear that these are aimed at the high handicap player.
There is also progressive offset (a good deal in long irons and decreasing through the set) and the "Slingshot" is a metal strip which extends across the back of the clubhead in each iron,placed lower in the longer irons than the short irons.

All these features are an attempt to aid a higher ball flight and assist in helping mishits fly that little further and straighter by placing the centre of gravity low in the clubhead.

The irons look chunky,but are not Big Bertha like in size and don't look too unwieldy.The Speed Step shaft is the light shaft that has been used in Nike's Pro Combo sets and is a fine shaft.The
Nike grip is excellent also.

Performance:
It really is a case of these doing exactly as it says on the tin.
These clubs are not subtle and low shooters will be unimpressed by the looks in particular,but there is no denying that as game improvers these are first rate performers.The sit surprisingly compact behind the ball and the offset and combination of topline and sole instils a great degree of confidence.

Long iron shots fly high and straight for good yardage while the mid irons produce a more penetrating flight but also fine yardage.The short irons perform the whole range of scoring shots,but are not the easiest to use in delicate situations from 100 yards in (thick sole and offset a hindrance here).

The wide soles and heavy feel make this set a joy to use from the rough as the sole parts the rough like a rudder.
Spin on the short irons is very acceptable also.

Value:
These clubs are priced quite competitively versus other top name brands.The ease of resale and trade-in (Nike and game improver combined!) mean that these represent good value.

Verdict:
This is an excellent set which will help many golfers reduce their handicaps with relative ease.Forgiving,versatile game improvers with the swoosh these clubs certainly merit serious consideration if you are in need of a new set.
