Nike pro combo irons

Nike pro combo
Club:Nike Pro Combo irons 3-pw
Shaft:Nike speed step steel Regular flex
Grip:Nike
Looks:
Combo sets are a new but not original phenomena in the iron market.Indeed one remembers fine combo sets (then known as "progressive" sets) by such manufacturers as Wilson and Ben Sayers in the mid 1990's.
The concept of mixing forgiving cavity back long irons and accurate blade short irons is certainly a sound one. These are beautifully made and finished irons, particulary the compact blades (8-pw).The 3 and 4 irons are full and quite deep cavity backs while the 5-7 irons are semi cavities with a weight pad deep and low in the cavity.
All the irons are forged and the high chrome finish is of an excellent quality. The speed steel shaft is a stepped shaft similar to the Dynamic Gold but much lighter and the Nike grip is good with placement guides for the hands.
There is progressive offset (more in long irons, less in short) and this helps playability. All irons sit beautifully behind the ball and just beg to be hit.

Performance:
The long irons are remarkably easy to use for a forged set. They pick the ball cleanly and easily off any lie and launch on a high, arching trajectory. The 5-7 irons are something similar, but have a relatively more penetrating trajectory than some other combo sets (MacGregor 1025CM,TaylorMade RAC Combo) while the bladed short irons are a joy to use, with their lowish ball flight and ease in producing all types of scoring shots, particulary punch shots and high lob shots with the pitching wedge.
Shaping the ball with all clubs is a breeze, aided by the soft forged heads.Performance from the rough is ok,but high handicappers will prefer full cavities for this, but they are certainly more user friendly than a full blade.A good all rounder.

Value:
These clubs are not cheap.Their performance just about justifies the price tag,but high handicappers will be better advised to look at TaylorMade RAC OS or Callaway Big Bertha for a more forgiving iron at a similar cost.Resale and trade-in value should be good due to a wide appeal and desirability of Nike gear.

Verdict:
These are excellent looking and high performing clubs in the right hands.Single figure men and improving mid handicappers should give these a test run.The number of professional players using combo sets (even Faldo!) should indicate that all golfers need just a little help with those dreaded long irons!
