nike oz putter

Club: 34 inch putter
Shaft:Nike steel
Grip:Nike
Looks: The latest trend in putter design is towards futuristic mallet designs and this is a strange looking beast. The basic shape mallet shape is unusual in that there is a "hollowed out" section in the rear of the putter, giving a ring which extends all the way around the back of the clubhead.
A mass of stainless steel in the centre of the hollowed out section contains a single white sight line for alignment. The back portion of the putter is made of stainless steel while the front section is made of lighter aluminium.
A face insert of blue aluminium gives a very unusual and eye catching look to the club. The steel shaft is stepless (like a rifle shaft) and there is a fine proprietary paddle grip (quite thick which often helps to reduce unwanted hand action).
The putter sits very nicely behind the ball and feels well balanced (if relatively light) in the hands.Overall the cosmetics are very good,if not to the liking of purists and die hard traditionalists.

Performance:
The milled face on this putter is almost an industry standard on most top of the range putters.Milling gives putter faces a perfectly flat surface and greater consistency across the face. The low and deep weighting in this Oz gives fine performance on long lag putts, most putts of 30 feet and more finishing well inside the "dustbin lid" despite relatively lightweight head.
Alignment on short putts is excellent due to shape and alignment aid and a large proportion of 6 foot and under putts find the bottom of the cup.The blue aluminium face gives a crisp yet softish feel (not as soft as Odyssey White Hot but softer than Ping Specify) and a beautiful roll of the ball.
The major fault is that the sole of the club is not bevelled (rolled) and sits very flat on the ground. This is ok on fast greens with short grass cover, but hinders performance from fringe grass and greens with long grass cover (which is pretty much the case all winter) as the club will snag on takeaway and follow through.Overall pretty acceptable.

Value:
Excellent value versus other mallets (Titleist Futura,TaylorMade Rossa Monza,Bobby Grace).Resale and trade in value should be ok as the putter looks durable and Nike is becoming more accepted as a top name brand.

Verdict:
Nice club that is eye catching and performs well.Best used by low handicappers on fast summer greens, this club will not be the one for a wet sunday morning fourball in deepest December but will find a home in many bags.
