Nike 300 cc forged steel

Club:Nike 300 cc forged steel 10.5 degree loft
Shaft:Nike graphite regular flex
Grip:Nike

Looks:
While titanium is now the industry standard for driver construction, many manufacturers are now producing drivers in steel as was the case almost exclusively up to a few years ago.
The bonus of steel is that it costs much less than titanium, but because steel is heavier than titanium this limits the size of the clubhead that can be formed. While titanium driver heads can reach 450cc and beyond,300cc is pretty much at the limit for a sttel headed driver.
This Nike is typical of it's now many stablemates in that it is simple in looks and construction. The deep blue finish is finished in a high lustre and the steel face features a broken scoreline as with it's titanium cousins.
The clubhead sits very square and solid looking behind the ball and is reassuringly large for it's size. The Nike shaft is the identical black and blue model of the titanium Nike models,as is the excellent grip made by Lamkin. The overall impression is very good on the eye.

Performance:
There is a myth among the golfing public that titanium drivers travel further and are easier to hit than steel headed models. This is perpetuated by manufacturers so that Joe Public will lay out for the latest titanium miracle club that will bomb it beyond your friends.
Only very thin titanium clubfaces (exhibiting maximum trampoline effect) will hit considerably beyond steel drivers. This club rewards centre strikes with a piercing trajectory that flies well and rolls for good overall yardage.Impact sound is solid but much less metallic than a titanium club (this will not fill some golfers with confidence) and this is understandable.
As with all Nike drivers, the shaft plays very stiff and it is advisable to go for a flex softer than normal and a degree or 2 higher loft to compensate.Fades and draws can be played quite easily for the skilled golfer as the ball stays fractionally longer on the face of a steel driver than on a titanium.
Mishits are noticed but are not punished too severely, either in dist ance or trajectory.
Overall this is a very fine club.

Value: Virtually half the price of a titanium if you opt for the steel option. For most players on a budget this is a significant saving and you are getting a fine stick from a top name manufacturer.Resale and trde in value may be limited by material of construction and relatively small head size in comparison to titanium models and so consider this as a keeper if purchased.

Marks:Excellent club at an excellent price. This club will serve the budget conscious high handicapper well,as long as the set up is correct.Testing is essential if you are to get the most from this one.
